Sometimes My Heart Stops

Sometimes my heart stops,
sometimes an ear forgets to hear,
or the eyes forget to open.
Sometimes the night
with its infinite tenderness
falls into my window.

This evening, sunshine
falls like tangerines into my lap,
staining my hands orange.
The wind I love arrives
full of the scent of jasmine,
then I think it is my own soul that I love,
this thorny rose that keeps on dying.

God of flowers,
giver of sunsets,
the day that I fall I hope
it is you that catches me,

I want to die surrounded by light,
in the embrace of the fire
that enraptures me.
I want to take with me
this world that I love,
this earth that laughs
and suffers with me.
